Symposium
The GESSS divisional student-run conferences are a initiative of the Geological Society of Australia (GSA) that allows Honours, Masters and PhD students to present their research to the local scientific community. This provides a receptive environment for students to gain experience communicating their research findings through oral and poster presentations. The conference also allows students to network and promote their talents to future employers, discover research areas at other universities or departments and meet new people in the Earth Sciences field.
The inspiration for the GESSS came from the Victorian Division of the Geological Society of Australia (GSA), which has supported the annual Victorian Universities Earth and Environmental Sciences Conference (VUEESC) for the last 30 years at Monash University.
The Western Australian GESSS series started in 2017 to continue the initiative annually, alternating between the host universities; The University of Western Australia and Curtin University.
This year, the GSA Earth Sciences Student Symposium will be hosted in person at Curtin University, featuring talks and posters from various Earth Sciences research areas.
This event is free for everybody. Membership of the GSA is optional to attend GESSS-WA 2023; however, it presents a great opportunity to become involved in the Geological Society of Australia!
